Do you have an infected or abscessed tooth that has already been root filled? We may recommend an Apicectomy.
What is an Apicectomy?
This is a form of endodontic treatment (surgical root canal treatment) where the root is shortened to remove infected tissue and sealed from the end of the root within the bone. This may be advised if a tooth which has already been root filled becomes re-infected or abscessed.
The Surgery…
The surgery can be performed with the patient awake, sedated or asleep. The access incision is minimal and consequently healing after surgery is quick and generally free of complications. It is usual to be given antibiotics, anti-inflammatory drugs and painkillers to make the post-operative healing period as comfortable as possible.
